Edward Rainbow was the Bishop of Carlisle between 1664 and 1684. His wife, Elizabeth collected recipes for herbal remedies. Her recipe book has survived at Dalemain near Penrith [www.dalemain.com].
Frances has studied the herbal remedies in detail. Several of the wild medicinal plants listed grow in Derbyshire today.
This information forms the background for talks, day-schools and field trips, two books and greeting cards.
